About the real test
- The 2025 civics test uses a list of 128 questions. At the interview you are asked 20 of them, out loud.
- You pass when you answer 12 correctly. The test stops at 12 correct (pass) or 9 wrong (not yet).
- If you are 65 or older and have been a permanent resident for 20 years, you study 20 marked questions and are asked 10.
Based on the published 2025 question list, read on 2 November 2026. People whose application was filed before 20 October 2025 take the older 2008 version (10 questions, 6 correct), which this tool does not cover. Check the current rules on the USCIS study page.
Answers that can change
A few answers depend on who holds an office, such as the President or the Speaker of the House. Others depend on where you live. We mark them with a note and checked them on 2 November 2026. Elections can change them, so look up the current answer before your interview on the USCIS updates page.
The real civics questions are asked out loud and are not multiple choice. Ours are multiple choice, so you can practise recognising the right answer. Say the answers out loud as you practise too.
