CompTIA Tech+ Study Plan and Pacing Guide

Every question and every answer is checked twice before you see it.

A simple plan for the CompTIA Tech+ (FC0-U71) exam, built around our 5 practice tests of 70 questions each (350 in total). The exam is about IT fundamentals: hardware, software, networking, security and databases.

Your pace

  • Each practice test: 70 questions in 60 minutes, about 0.9 minutes per question
  • Our pass mark: 72%. Aim for 82% or more twice in a row before you book the real exam
  • Always confirm the current format, pass mark and fee on the vendor's official exam page

4-week plan

  1. Week 1: baseline. Read the official exam guide, then take Test 1 under exam conditions. Note every topic you missed.
  2. Week 2: fix gaps. Study the weak topics, read the explanation of every option you got wrong, then take Test 2.
  3. Week 3: build speed. Take Tests 3 and 4 on separate days. Keep to about 0.9 minutes per question.
  4. Week 4: final check. Take Test 5, review all explanations again, and book the exam once you reach 82%.

2-week plan (if you already know the topic)

  1. Days 1 to 3: official exam guide and Test 1.
  2. Days 4 to 9: Tests 2 to 4, one every other day, with a review session between them.
  3. Days 10 to 14: Test 5, then a final review of the topics you still miss.

Frequently asked questions

How long should I spend per question on the CompTIA Tech+ practice tests?

Each of our tests has 70 questions in 60 minutes, about 0.9 minutes per question. Practise at that pace from Test 1 so the real timing feels familiar.

What score should I reach before booking the CompTIA Tech+ exam?

Our tests use a 72% pass mark. A safe target is to score 82% or more on at least two tests in a row, then check the vendor's official exam guide for the current pass mark and format.

Can I retake the same practice tests?

Yes, but wait a few days and review the explanations first, so you are testing understanding rather than memory of the answers.
