CLOUD AND NETWORKING

What is CDN?

A network of servers around the world that keeps copies of your content close to your users.

In plain English

CDN stands for content delivery network. Instead of every visitor fetching a file from one distant server, the CDN serves a cached copy from a nearby location. Pages load faster, the origin server gets less traffic, and the site is more resilient to spikes.

Example

A site hosted in one country loads images for a visitor on the other side of the world from a nearby CDN location.
