What is Kubernetes Service?
A stable network address and name that sends traffic to a changing group of pods.
In plain English
Because pods come and go, their addresses change. A Service picks its pods by label and gives clients one steady name and virtual IP, then spreads requests across the healthy pods behind it. The common types are ClusterIP (inside the cluster only), NodePort (opens a port on every node) and LoadBalancer (asks the cloud for an external load balancer).
Example
A front-end calls http://orders and the orders Service forwards the request to one of three order pods.
Easy to confuse with
- Pod: The Service is the stable front door. The pods are the workers behind it.
