What is Kubernetes Deployment?
An object that keeps a chosen number of identical pods running and updates them safely.
In plain English
You describe the desired state, such as three copies of version 2 of an app. The Deployment creates the pods through a ReplicaSet, replaces any that fail, and rolls out a new version gradually so the app stays available. If the new version misbehaves you can roll back to the previous one.
Example
Changing the container image tag in a Deployment starts a rolling update: new pods start while old ones are removed a few at a time.
Easy to confuse with
- Pod: You rarely create bare pods. A Deployment manages them for you.
