PROJECT MANAGEMENT AND AGILE

What is Product Owner?

The person accountable for maximising the value of the product and managing the Product Backlog.

In plain English

The Product Owner decides what the team works on and in what order, based on value, risk and feedback from users and stakeholders. They keep the backlog clear and visible. Although they may involve others, one person is accountable and the organisation should respect their decisions.

Example

Deciding that a faster checkout is more valuable this month than a new report, and moving it to the top of the backlog.

Easy to confuse with

  • Scrum Master: The Product Owner owns the “what”. The Scrum Master supports the “how we work”.
