What is Scrum Master?
The person accountable for helping a Scrum team understand and use Scrum well.
In plain English
The Scrum Master serves the team, the Product Owner and the organisation. They coach people in self-management, help remove obstacles and make sure Scrum events happen and stay useful. They are not the team’s manager and do not assign the work.
Example
A Scrum Master facilitates the retrospective and helps the team agree one improvement to try next sprint.
Easy to confuse with
- Product Owner: The Scrum Master looks after how the team works. The Product Owner looks after what is worth building.
