What is Scope creep?
Uncontrolled growth in what a project is expected to deliver.
In plain English
It happens when small additions are accepted without checking their effect on time, cost and quality. The defence is a clearly agreed scope, a change control process that records and assesses every requested change, and stakeholders who understand the trade-offs.
Example
“Can you just add one more report?” repeated ten times, with no change to the deadline or budget.
Easy to confuse with
- Work breakdown structure (WBS): The WBS defines the scope. Scope creep is what happens when scope grows without control.
